Click to view the full article (PDF) Every state funds its public education with a combination of federal, state, local and private dollars. When last reviewed, state revenues were providing anywhere from 31.4% to 67.3% of the funding for elementary and secondary education programs in Southern Education States, with the median of 49.4%. In other words, state revenues support roughly half of the funding for K-12 education in these states, matching the national average.
